MD Maya

A font developed for the Panama Plus Festival grasping the utopian idea of an open and multilayered society.

Introduction

Panama Plus is an interdisciplinary music and art festival. The event is an attempt to create a utopia in which the exchange between culture and society are in total harmony. Moby Digg developed a typeface which embodies this mentality.

Approach

Inspired by Mayan glyphs from pre-Columbian America, letters have been created that remain ambiguous – reminding of a hidden civilisation.

Outcome

There are different variations for each letter, as in the interpretation system of the Mayan script.  Ambiguously interpretable – associations with architecture, cave drawings and mysticism arise.

Impact

The font was released for free after the festival – and has since been used in numerous projects by other designers and studios.
